Fall 2023 Internship, Digital Communications (Virtual)

Hub Summary:

The Strategic Engagement group represents a collaborative GMF-wide communications and engagement function whose purpose is to. achieve greater efficiency, synergy, and strategic messaging. The teams managing government relations, communications, publications, CRM database, and events comprise this group.  The group will ensure all internal and external engagement reflects and widely promotes GMF’s brand: we are the living, breathing spirit of the Marshall Plan.

Work Stream Summary:

GMF’s Communications Team amplifies the organization’s impact on transatlantic engagement and cooperation and works hard to build recognition of GMF’s programs and impact. The Digital Team is responsible for all digital communications assets at GMF. This includes the website, social media, and e-mail communications. 

Job Summary:

The Virtual Digital Communications Intern will support the management of GMF’s social platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, as well as assist in the content management of gmfus.org. The intern will learn about the important role of communications in think tanks and international relations. GMF’s Digital Communications Team strives to create a supportive and mentoring work environment and will support interns in working on projects of interest to them and their career goals.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Creating and curating content for various social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • Monitor social media trends, analyze performance metrics, and suggest recommendations for future improvements.
  • Support the team in updating and maintaining GMF’s website.
  • Scheduling social media in Sprout social.
  • Assist with storytelling projects as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Experience with creating content for social media channels.
  • Familiarity with Drupal or other web platforms preferred.
  • Excellent English writing, editing, and speaking skills.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to multitask, and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Experience in adobe creative suites preferred but not required.
  • Undergraduate student majoring in communications, journalism, international relations, public relations, marketing, or related field

Position Dates, Compensation, and Eligibility:

  • Preferred start date: September or early- October 2023
  • Preferred end date: mid-December 2023, with the option to continue the spring semester if possible.
  • Preferred time commitment: 12-16 hours a week
  • Compensation: This internship is unpaid, but interns should receive college credit through their universities.
  • Residency: there is no residency requirement.
