Systems Administrator, Information Technology

Assignment Status: 2 year Fixed-term

In conjunction with IT colleagues, the Systems Administrator maintains GMF’s global network (8 offices world-wide) and protects GMF intellectual property.  S/he assists with routine network operations and security and is responsible for maintaining backups, trouble-shooting network errors and supporting the Brussels-based Help Desk staff member in resolving issues. The Systems Administrator is responsible for leading network projects such as installations and upgrades as needed.  This position manages the Brussels-based Help Desk staff team member.

      Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain network, routers, switches, firewalls, software deployment, security updates and patches across all offices
  • Maintain file server / shared drives access / local storage devices
  • Manage MPLS connections across all offices
  • Manage firewall configuration and access
  • Manage creation and deletion of user accounts (Exchange, Active Directory); modify & update existing generic accounts, run outgoing staff procedure, and update distribution groups for staff
  • Manage network projects and migrations as needed
  • Manages the mobile devices of all Berlin based employees and  manages the contracts
  • Research and recommend approaches for system administration tasks and improving the overall infrastructure – e.g. optimization of data flow across eight offices and countries, security monitoring procedures, VPN end user solutions, and MDM (Mobile Device Management) performance
  • Administration of VMware servers and hosts
  • Install new / rebuild / maintain existing servers
  • Maintain Microsoft active Directory network functionality
  • Troubleshoot network issues
  • Provide troubleshooting support for GMF staff
  • Maintain hardware inventory
  • Maintain Microsoft Office 365
  • Provide oversight, direction and ensure professional development of the Brussels-based Help Desk position
  • Direct the work of the DC-based Help Desk Specialist; oversee performance and professional development


  • Bachelor’s degree in Technology related field or equivalent vocational training and/or work experience
  • MCP/MCSA/MCSE preferred; CompTia Network+ a plus
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional IT experience in an office environment along with a solid understanding of networking and system administration
  • Experience with cloud-based technologies
  • Understanding of TCP/IP, network connectivity, wireless connectivity and VPN support
  • Experience supporting Office 365
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service; demonstrated ability to interact with colleagues in a cross-cultural, fast-paced environment
  • Must be Fluent in German to conduct negotiations and understand contracts in German in detail.

       Candidate must be  in possession of a non-restrictive German work permit in order to be considered
