Job Summary:
The new Transatlantic Security workstream (TS) is a strategic priority of GMF. Its key task is to offer multi-dimensional transatlantic and pan European analysis and advice to political, military and business decision-makers on both sides of the Atlantic. The TS aims to link content and convening on the highest level. The goal is to analyze and further develop the European capacity to act in the political, military and industrial defense realm, while maintaining and improving a strong transatlantic link.
The Regional Director is chiefly responsible for leadership, fundraising, strategic and budget planning and management related to the Warsaw Office. In this capacity, the individual provides direction and management oversight of staff and serves as the primary point of contact with senior policymakers and other external partners. In close cooperation with the Senior Vice President, Transatlantic Security (SVP, TS) they are responsible for the quality and integrity of programming, research and policy analysis within the work stream and ensures impact that contributes to the strategic direction of the broader organization.
The Regional Director leads a team of professionals responsible for programmatic development and execution, closely coordinates with the SVP, TS as well as liaises with other GMF programs, managing directors and executive team members.
Key Duties/Responsibilities:
- Implementing GMF Warsaw Office strategic vision and making sure these initiatives are included in GMF’s TS programming.
- Developing and executing GMF Warsaw fundraising strategy: outreach strategy, identification of prospects, conducting meetings, oversight of proposals and follow-up.
- Providing direction on external communications related to GMF Warsaw / TS initiatives and activities in collaboration with Vice President, External Relations.
- Anticipating topics and short and longer-term trends in the current geopolitical environment, that policymakers and corporate business leaders do not have on their radar yet. Providing recommendations and analysis for managing these risks and mitigating their impact.
- Designing and supervising research projects and ensuring their policy relevance impact on the transatlantic community and broader strategic debate.
- Developing and renewing GMF’s networks and contacts within the geographical area of the Alliance’s Eastern front.
- Conducting research work on a variety of topics relating to transatlantic relations, Central and Eastern Europe and U.S. foreign policy and strategic affairs (publication of articles, presentations at conferences, private briefings for partners, interviews/writing for transatlantic media), in close coordination with SVP TS and as part of the TS content strategy.
- Providing general oversight over GMF Warsaw budget, ensuring that the work stream budget fits well into the broader Geostrategy budget and priorities, proposing cost-effective solutions.
- Collaborating with other GMF workstreams to leverage resources, opportunities and strategies that complement and amplify the efforts of each program to achieve the greatest impact.
- Managing GMF Warsaw team members, leading a team of professionals responsible for programmatic development and execution (including fellows).
Qualifications and Requirements:
- 10+ years of senior leadership experience required
- Significant experience and skill in management of staff and resources, as well as strategic planning, in organizations of comparable size
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain strong relationships with donors and cultivate new relationships with prospective donors and partners
- An established track record of publications and considerable substantive knowledge of and experience in the field of transatlantic relations, especially relations between the Central and Eastern Europe, NATO and the United States
- A successful track record of ideating, developing and executing on funding proposals
- An established media profile and excellent public speaking and communication skills
- PhD or Master degree in Political Science, International Affairs, preferred.
